Asia’s richest man Mukesh Ambani is building a world-class city near Delhi-NCR. Named MET city, the project is fast emerging as Haryana’s new economic hub. The city is north India’s fastest growing integrated smart city which attracted an investment of Rs 1,200 crore in FY 2022-23 from 76 new companies. Apart from the economic investment, the residential areas are seeing growth in acquisition. With 1200 new home buyers, the total sale of residential plots has reached 2000 units.

The smart city being constructed by Ambani’s RIL subsidiary has already attracted 450 companies with multiple brands from seven countries. The city is spread over 8,000 acres and is being made by Model Economic Township Limited, a wholly-owned Reliance Industries subsidiary.

The city is being developed from scratch in Jhajjar and will stand alongside nearby Gurugram as Haryana’s mega economic hubs. 4 Japanese giants – Nihon Kohden, Panasonic, Denso and T-Suzuki – have set up major plants in the city which is also designated as a Japan Industrial Township. The city is being designed with a “walk-to-work masterplan” and offers plug-n-play infrastructure to companies who set up units there, as per MET City CEO SV Goyal.

The selling points for home buyers include strong connectivity and closeness to Delhi, Gurugram, Noida and other NCR cities. It is strategically located along the Kundli Manesar Palwal (KMP) Expressway. New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport is easily accessible. The company has already invested Rs 8,000 crore and is investing another Rs 1,000 crore in the next phase.

Mukesh Ambani’s new city will also have rail connectivity with the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) of Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC). For families, the city offers educational facilities like the SGT University and The Sehwag School which is run by former cricketer Virender Sehwag. Healthcare facilities include an AIIMS institute nearby to the Reliance MET city.
